WHY LASER RESURFACING?

Improve acne scarring, wrinkles, discoloration, and stretch marks with Lumenis® ResurFX™.

Rough, uneven skin texture can result from many things, but often it’s scarring. Acne lesions cause an infection under the skin, and when our body sends white blood cells to attack it, they can destroy not only the infection but also surrounding collagen and elastin. The result? A divot-like scar in the skin. Uneven texture can also be due to the fine lines and wrinkles resulting from facial expressions that break down collagen and elastin. ResurFX™ by Lumenis® not only treats acne scarring and wrinkles, it stimulates collagen and elastin production to return your skin to a smoother, firmer, and more youthful condition.

ResurFX™ is a state-of-the-art, non-ablative, fractional laser treatment. This means that it does not destroy skin cells during treatment and that your provider can control the percentage of skin treated. This unique quality allows for fantastic results with minimal downtime and recovery – unlike traditional CO2 laser resurfacing, which may require several days of crusting, peeling, and swelling.

THE PROCESS

ResurFX™ skin rejuvenation prioritizes patient comfort just as much as effectiveness! A topical anesthetic will be used to keep treated skin comfortable during treatment. Your provider will choose the ideal pattern of fractionated energy delivery, depth, and strength to match your skin concerns. She will then work in small sections of your treatment area until a full pass has been completed on your skin. The fractionated laser beams will create tiny channels in your skin that prompt an increased production of collagen and elastin to heal themselves. ResurFX™ can be performed virtually anywhere on the body where uneven skin texture is present, including the face, neck, chest, hands, and may even be effective on stretch marks on the breasts and abdominal area for some people. Your resurfacing will take 45-60 minutes, depending on the size of the area treated. ResurFX™ can also be combined with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for enhanced improvements to skin tone as well as texture.

THE RESULTS

Immediately following your laser treatment, your skin will be slightly red and swollen – much like the look and feel of a sunburn. These symptoms will subside within 24-48 hours. Some clients experience a bronzed appearance and a sandpaper feeling to the skin’s surface for a few days after treatment. You can return to regular activities that day after your procedure. It is essential to wear sun protection before and after your treatment to avoid skin pigment changes.

Although improvements can be seen with one ResurFX™ treatment, a series of at least three spaced 4-6 weeks apart is recommended because it is a fractional laser that only treats a certain percentage of skin at a time. More treatments may be needed for deeper acne scarring, wrinkles, and stretch marks.

With each ResurFX™ treatment, your skin is stimulated to produce fresh, healthy collagen and elastin for three to six months following your procedure. As collagen and elastin are restored, you’ll enjoy fuller, smoother, and tighter skin as well as enhanced skin tone clarity. Many client complete one laser resurfacing treatment series and then maintain their skin with an annual or quarterly treatment to keep their collagen and elastin production healthy and strong.

Please note, ResurFX™ is not recommended when you have an active tan on your skin. Some oral prescriptions and topical skincare ingredients may make you more sensitive to laser resurfacing. Your laser provider will discuss these special concerns during your consultation.
