WHAT IS BOTOX?
Botox is a cosmetic treatment for diminishing the appearance of facial wrinkles that form when making certain expressions, such as smiling or frowning. Its active ingredient, botulinum toxin type a, interrupts the signals the brain sends to the facial muscles, causing the skin not to contract as intensely as they would normally. This reduces wrinkles while still allowing people to have natural-looking expressions.
WHY BOTOX?
The experience and credentials of your provider are imperative to your results with Botox.
We are in the top 1% of Botox providers in the United States out of over 36,000 Allergan accounts, which means we are experts! All injectable treatments at The Refinery Skin Clinic are performed by registered nurses who have extensive experience and advanced certifications for cosmetic injectables. In fact, Rebecca Suess RN, CPSN, CANS, is an Allergan Medical Institute Faculty Member and trains new clinics on the use of Botox and other Allergan products.
THE PROCESS
Botox is the #1 selling product of its kind in the world. Approved for cosmetic use in over 78 countries, Botox has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since 2002 and is one of the most extensively studied medical aesthetic treatments in the world.
Botox is comprised of very small amounts of a highly purified protein that is refined from the bacterium clostridium botulinum. When injected into the skin, it relaxes the underlying muscle activity that causes a specific wrinkle. This process both gradually occurs and wears off, ensuring a natural-looking transition between treatments.
Botox injections are fast and virtually painless. Ice is often applied to the injection area to lessen any discomfort. You may experience slight redness and swelling at the injection site after your treatment, although this normally subsides within a few hours.
RESULTS OF BOTOX
After your botulinum toxin injection, your results will gradually set in over the next 10 days. Full results are normally seen at two weeks. It is important not to touch your injection site or apply full pressure to the area, such as sleeping on a pillow, for several hours after your treatment. Be sure to tell your injector before your Botox treatment if you are preparing for a special occasion or receiving other skin treatments.
To maintain your smooth and youthful look, Botox is recommended every three to four months. If started early in life, Botox can actually prevent wrinkles from forming. Your injector may discuss enhancing and extending your results with complementary treatments such as dermal fillers and physician-dispensed skincare.
*Although Botox® has competitors on the market such as Dysport® and Xeomin®, our providers have selected Allergan’s Botox® Cosmetic as their product of choice to deliver the safest, most reliable and consistent results.
